بسم الله و الحمد لله و الصلاة و السلام على سيدنا محمد

الجـلد هذا العضو الأكبر في جسم الإنسان , و الذي يقوم بمهام جسيمة , من حمايةٍ و تنظيمٍ و غير ذلك , يستحق منا أن نتعرف على تفاصيله , و أن نتعلم عنه أشياء كثيرة تفيدنا , لنحافظ عليه , بل و لدرء و تحسين ما نستطيع مما يعتوره من آفات , و الجـلد هو عضو تجده أينما نظرت في الإنسان , تصل مساحته لحوالي 1,8- 2 م2 , و وزنه من 15-16% تقريباً من وزن البالغ في حال اعتبرناه مؤلفاً من 3 طبقات , و الجـلد يغلف الإنسان كله عدا العيون , يتألف من طبقتين أو ثلاث طبقات على اختلافٍ بين العلماء , الطبقة العليا البشرة , و التي تليها الأدمة , و الثالثة (المختلف عليها) النسيج الشحمي , و على الرغم من الاختلاف المذكور إلا أن هذه الأخيرة لها حصة كبيرة في الدراسة و المتابعة من كل أطباء الجـلد , و ثخانة الجـلد تختلف من منطقة لأخرى , فهي في الأجفان و خلف الأذنين الأكثر رقة , و في الراحتين و الأخمصين الأكثر ثخانة , و للجلد وظائف عديدة , و هي :
- إحاطة الأعضاء الداخلية , و ضمها في كيان واحد , و حمايتها من الصدمات و أذيات الأجسام الكبيرة و الصغيرة و المُمْرِضة و الميكروبات (القيام بدور مناعي) , و الأذيات الكيماوية , و الحرارية (التنظيم الحراري للجسم , و الحماية من البرد و الحر) , و أذية المياه , و الأذية الضيائية , و كذلك من التفاعلات التحسسية .
- إضافة لقيامه بدور جمالي فهو يقوم بالاتصال مع الوسط الخارجي , و تبيان الأحاسيس المختلفة (ألم , حرارة , برودة , ضغط) , و إظهار التعابير الوجهية , و كذلك أعراض بعض الأمراض الداخلية .
- القيام بتخزين الماء و و حفظه , و بتخزين الكربوهيدرات والفيتامينات والبروتينات و الشوارد و الحريرات , و بوظائف استقلابية (إنتاج شحوم ثلاثية و فيتامين د و غليكان و جزيئات إنذارية و بروتينات هيكلية) , و كذلك طرح الملح و مواد سامة .
- الترميم الذاتي في حال الإصابة بضياع مادي (جروح , حروق و غير ذلك) .
ملاحظة : الجـلد الثخين لا يوجد فيه أجربة شعرية و غدداً دهنية و أليافاً عضلية ناعمة لكنه يحتوي بالمقابل غدداً عرقية .
